Living Yoga Taupo - Passing on the Yoga Tradition
Living Yoga was established in Taupo in 2006, when Andrew and I moved to New Zealand from Australia. We thank our teacher Peter Sanson, and all our students who have helped make our studio the success it is today.
Here in New Zealand we are lucky enough to practise Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga primarily under the guidance of a wonderful teacher Peter Sanson (certified by the AYRI, Mysore). We have also attended workshops with renowned teachers John Scott and Dena Kinsberg. We have spent two extended periods in Mysore, India (January - March 2010 and December 2011 - April 2012) where we studied at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute with Sharath Jois and Saraswati (www.ayri.org). Extra studies also included Sanskrit chanting and Yogic philosophy and Transcendental Meditation (TM) with Dr M. A. Jayashree and Professor Narasimha, and Yoga anatomy/physiology.
Fiona Links - Yoga Teacher and Craniosacral Therapist
Fiona is a registered Yoga Alliance Teacher (RYT200) and Upledger Craniosacral Therapist. She started practising Yoga in 1995 to help improve her breathing and back pain during her final years at school. In 2001, after completing a teaching apprenticeship with Body & Mind Unlimited in Sydney, she taught at various Sydney venues, including schools, Fitness First gyms, Intercontinental Hotel, corporations and privately. In Hobart she taught Hatha Yoga at The Yoga Point. After moving to New Zealand in 2006, she completed preliminary teacher training in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga for Beginners with John and Lucy Scott at Stillpoint Yoga, Nelson.
In 2010-11 she was awarded a Merit in a YA200 teaching certificate in Ashtanga Yoga through the Auckland Yoga Academy (Jude Hynes and Peter Nilsson). Fiona has also completed training in Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute (USA). Her formal education extends to a PhD in Archaeological Geophysics, and she still keep her 'oar in' as a scientific report editor.
Fiona is passionate about the value of Yoga as preventative medicine and therapeutic treatment. She loves the science of Yoga and Craniosacral Therapy, and the art of applying these practises to daily life.
Andrew Rae - Ashtanga Yoga Teacher
Andrew has been a devoted student of Yoga since 1988, starting with Iyengar Yoga and then moving into Ashtanga in 1994 (under the guidance of Peter Nilsson and Jude Hynes, Auckland Yoga Academy). He was an occasional assistant teacher to Lyndel Dean while in Tasmania (The Yoga Point), and is assistant teacher at Living Yoga when not working as a Geothermal Geologist. Andrew maintains a regular Ashtanga Yoga practise under the guidance of Peter Sanson and Sharath Jois.
Siobhain Rainbow - Teaching Assistant
Siobhain has been a regular Yoga practitioner since 2005, but she first started getting into classes in 2000, after the birth of her second child. It gave her some much needed time out from busy family life and a valuable opportunity to spend quality time with her girlfriends. She also found it helpful for maintaining a healthy weight after having children. Siobhain is now regularly assisting and teaching in the Living Yoga Studio and is passionate about teaching Yoga for children.
